Parish Nurse Ministry Begins at Journey

News Article

Greetings Journey Community Church Family,

It is truly a pleasure to join you as the new Parish Nurse. Thank you all for the warm welcome and kind words I have received. I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little about my background.

My name is Makeda Kirui, and I am honored and blessed to be part of the Journey Community Church. I am the oldest child in my family, supported by my wonderful mom and brother, and we also share our home with our adorable cat, Colin.

I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) who passed the NCLEX earlier this year and I currently serve as a Charge Nurse in a skilled nursing facility. In addition, I work as a School Nurse (K–12) and as a Peer Tutor, providing academic support to LVN students navigating challenging nursing concepts. I am also enrolled in an accelerated bachelor’s/ master’s program on the path toward becoming a Registered Nurse.

My educational background includes associate degrees in health science, social science, kinesiology, and vocational nursing, as well as a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise and human performance. I believe these diverse experiences have equipped me to support our congregation well.

As a nurse, I embrace a holistic approach to health, caring not only for physical needs but also for emotional and spiritual well-being. My hope is to serve as a resource and partner in health for our church family.

I look forward to getting to know each of you better. I will be attending Sunday services regularly and holding office hours every Monday from 5pm to 7pm and Saturday from 11am to 1pm for the month of October, with the exception of Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, as I will be out of town. I will be updating my office hours monthly and will notify everyone if changes have been made. Please feel free to stop by during those times or reach out to me via email at parishnurse@arcadia.church or phone at (626)604-5240.

With gratitude and warmest regards,

Makeda Kirui
